Both ChatGPT and Google Gemini are outstanding AI chatbots that allow you to do so many tasks. ChatGPT and Gemini are both quite good at writing and creating code.

There isn’t much separating ChatGPT and Google Gemini at the moment with Gemini slightly better for me due to its larger context window, faster results and extensions.

What you can do with ChatGPT/Gemini

One thing you should know is that you can’t expect ChatGPT or Gemini to do everything for you. I always use them with the idea of AI as a first draft. These AI chatbots can be unreliable so be careful and double-check everything.

In saying that here are the most useful things an AI tool can do:

  • Brainstorm
  • Research
  • Translate languages
  • Write emails
  • Summarize long texts
  • Write and debug code
  • Act as a learning aid

There are other countless tasks that you can do with both ChatGPT and Gemini.

Is Google Gemini Better than ChatGPT?

In my opinion, the output from Google Gemini is very slightly better than ChatGPT. The text is usually better formatted, and the writing style a little easier to read. Google Gemini definitely seems to work better with more recent events.

GPT 4 (The paid version of ChatGPT) is really really good but the same is true of Google’s paid version Google Gemini Advanced. At the moment GPT4 is better at coding than Google Gemini.

How Do You Use Google Gemini?

To start using Google Gemini all you need to do is go to the app here.

Then the app is similar to ChatGPT in that you just need to write a prompt of what you would like it to do.

You should also check the settings on your Google Gemini account and check the extensions you want to use. You can have Gemini use YouTube videos, Google Maps and your Google Workspace as part of its research and output.

ChatGPT vs Google Gemini Free Versions

ChatGPT is a generative pre-trained large language model developed by OpenAI. It’s famous for its ability to hold human-like conversations, generate creative text, and answer questions across many domains.

The free version of ChatGPT uses the GPT3.5 model which is quite good at most tasks but not suitable for tasks that need a high degree of logic/reasoning or for challenging coding generations.

Gemini is Google AI’s answer to the growing popularity of ChatGPT. This powerful language model family offers several versions, including Gemini Nano, Gemini Pro, and the advanced Gemini Ultra. Gemini can understand different content types like text, images, videos, and code as part of its context

ChatGPT Plus vs Google Gemini Advanced Feature Differences

Both ChatGPT and Google Gemini have paid upgrades which provide different features. Let’s run through these features now.

ChatGPT Plus

By paying for a ChatGPT subscription, you get the following benefits:

GPT 4 is a more capable model with better reasoning than the model used for the free version (GPT3.5). GPT4 is especially helpful if you need more nuanced and accurate information if you want to process a lot of information like a complicated piece of code.

Dalle 3 is an AI image generator which you can use with ChatGPT Plus. Being able to create AI images quickly and easily is a game changer for content creators and web publishers.

Connected to the Internet

ChatGPT Plus can also connect to the internet using Microsoft’s Bing search engine. This is especially helpful if you need more recent information as the training of the basic version has a cutoff point and may not be able to reference more recent events.

Custom GPTs and GPT store

Custom GPT’s allow people to create chatbots that are trained on specific prompts and knowledge. Think of chatgpt but it has been trained specifically to write emails. There is also a GPT store where you can try other peoples’ GPT’s.

Google Gemini Advanced

Signing up for Google’s Advanced plan is quite complicated and not all of the features seem to work yet.

Here is what you get with the paid version of Google Gemini:

Gemini Advanced Model

Gemini’s advanced model works really well and the output is the best I have found so far.It is really good if you want to research and organize information.

Gemini in Gmail, Google Docs, Slides, Sheets

This really could be amazing if Google finally gets their act together. I have managed to get Google Gemini in my email but it still seems difficult to get Gemini in Google Docs.

Final Thoughts

I have to say I thought it would be hard for me to change from ChatGPT to Google Gemini but I am finding myself using it more and more.

The quality of the paid version is just that bit more detailed and accurate than ChatGPT. On the other hand, chatGPT has great features like custom GPT’s and Image generation which Google is struggling with.
