ZeroGPT (Not GPTZero. Read our GPTZero review here) is an AI content detector that aims to tell you whether a piece of text was written by an AI tool or not. In our experience, ZeroGPT is not worth using and you should use Winston AI instead.
Since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, many, many people have used AI to generate text for essays, emails, and even blog articles.
The tools are very easy to use and all you have to do is ask for what you want, and the tool will generate a text for you (this is called a prompt).
What does ZeroGPT do?
AI content detection tools like ZeroGPT use AI to analyze text and see if the text is AI-generated or human-written.
It then generates a report giving you a really like “most likely generated by AI” or “your text is most likely Human written, may include parts generated by AI”.
But does ZeroGPT work? Let’s find out.
Testing ZeroGPT to see if it Works
The first thing we need to do to test if ZeroGPT works is to create a piece of AI-generated tet. You can use any AI tool to do this and my favorites are ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Claude.
Let’s try Claude for this experiment. I asked Claude to “write me an essay about the history of oil exploration in South America”
Then I tested it out in our AI content detection tool Winston AI. Our tool has a 99.98% accuracy rate when it comes to detecting AI-written content
As you can see below, we correctly predicted that it was AI-generated.
Now let’s test out our text in ZeroGPT. ZeroGPT returned a score of 93.3% AI written
It is quite easy to bypass ZeroGPT. When I asked it to “write using high burstiness and perplexity” I got this result.
ZeroGPT Features Explained
ZeroGPT is mainly an AI content detection tool but they do have other helpful tools.
Here is a list of some of them and what they do:
- AI Grammar Checker: Automatically detects and corrects grammar, punctuation, and style errors in text.
- AI Summarization Tool: Condenses long documents or articles into shorter summaries, highlighting the main points.
- AI Paraphrasing Tool: Rewrites sentences and paragraphs to improve clarity and originality while retaining the original meaning.
- AI Translator: Translates text from one language to another, often providing real-time translation.
- Word Counter Tool: Counts the number of words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs in a text.
- Citation Generator: Automatically formats citations and bibliographies in various citation styles (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago).
- AI Email Helper: Assists in drafting, proofreading, and optimizing emails for better clarity, tone, and effectiveness.
ZeroGPT AI Pricing
According to the pricing information on ZeroGPT’s website, they offer three different plans. There is a free plan which includes 15,000 characters per AI detection.
Their paid plans include:
- PRO plan: $9.99/month or $99.48/year, allows 100,000 characters per AI detection
- MAX plan: $26.99/month, provides 500,000 characters per AI detection
Most importantly, the paid plans remove the advertisements (of which there are many) from their website.
ZeroGPT Pros and Cons
Pros
- Lower cost compared to some other tools per word scanned.
- Some useful extra tools like an AI writing assistant and translator.
- Free version available.
Cons
- It isn’t as accurate with AI detection as a tool like Winston AI.
- I couldn’t find any information about how the tool works or accuracy rates.
- You can’t make reports that you can share with your team.
ZeroGPT Alternatives
There are many alternatives to ZeroGPT on the market. Here are some of them:
Winston AI
Winston AI is our AI detection tool. We have a 99.98% accuracy rate when it comes to detecting AI-generated content. This is so important as you need to be able to trust the results you get from an AI detector. I have tested the tool hundreds of times and it has always provided correct answers to me.
Winston AI is easy to use. You can either use the app or the Chrome extension. Winston AI is much more professional than ZeroGPT. You can create reports for your educational institution using our tool.
GPTZero
GPTZero is a tool with a very similar name and product. It has extra features like a Chrome Extension. I tested out GPTZero and didn’t have good results. You can read my GPTZero review here
Final Thoughts
ZeroGPT is good for a free AI content detection tool. There are some problems with it, however, like for example if you want to know the accuracy rate of the tool and the tool is easy enough to bypass.
AIso, it is not really for professional environments. For professional work, I would recommend you use Winston AI as there is a report creation feature and the user interface is more practical for a professional organization and not covered in advertisements.
